Awarded the OBE by HM The Queen for services to the health and safety information industry in the 1993 UK New Year's Honours List, Sheila also received an award in recognition of her outstanding contribution in the cause of health and safety from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in 2001.

Sheila has worked in information provision for a number of years in numerous industries - iron and steel, heavy engineering and coal, as well as research establishments. Working for the Health and Safety Executive, she established and developed, over a period of 17 years, the world renowned "UK Health and Safety Executive Information Service".

Using her vast knowledge and experience within the Health, Safety, Environment and Fire information industry, she has carried out worldwide consulting, training and setting up of information services in many countries. Sheila works closely with a number of organisations and government departments such as the International Labour Office Health and Safety Centre (Geneva) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Jeremy Stranks has 40 years of experience in occupational safety and health enforcement, management, consultancy and training.   He is a founding member of NEBOSH and lectures on numerous training courses on various aspects of health and safety.   His company, Safety & Hygiene Consultants, offers organizations advice on health and safety management issues, including the drawing up of health and safety policies, risk assessment and audit procedures.

His books include “The Handbook of Health and Safety Practice”, “Health and Safety Law”, (Pearson Education), “The Manager’s Guide to Health and Safety at Work”, (Kogan Page), “Stress at Work:  Management and Prevention”, “The Health and Safety Pocket Book”, “Human Factors and Behavioural Safety” (Elsevier Butterworth Heinemann) and “The A to Z of Health and Safety” (Thorogood Publishing).


 

Dr Tim Marsh PhD; FIOSH; C.Psychol

Tim Marsh, then at UMIST, was one of the team leaders of the original UK research into behavioural safety in the early 1990s and is considered a leading international authority on the subject. As a consultant he has since worked with more than 200 major organisations around the world including umbrella organisations like North Sea STEP Change, the HSE and the Chemical Industries Association. He runs the Behavioural Safety and Pro-Active Safety courses for IOSH, has twice been invited to present to the European Conference Board on the topic and was expert witness at the “Safety Culture” and “Management of Change” open workshops at the Cullen Inquiry (Ladbroke Grove). He has chaired more than a dozen conferences on Behavioural Safety in the UK as well as major conferences in Dubai, South Africa, Malaysia and India. In 1997 he founded the highly successful European Behavioural Safety User Conference (now run by RoSPA) and has written several safety videos such as “Drive Smarter”, “Active Monitoring”, “There’s Always a Reason” and “Safety Watch”. Clients of Ryder-Marsh placed both first and runner-up at both the inaugural and 2006 Allan Poole Behavioural Safety Achievement Awards.
